How are fillers used?
Natural substances such as collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid that provide the skin with structure and volume, decrease with age. This, together with genetic and environmental factors such as exposure to sunlight, smoking and stress, all contribute to how our skin ages.
Dermal fillers are smooth injectable gels that are placed below the skin’s surface to literally ‘plump up’ or ‘fill in’ facial folds and wrinkles that are present at rest, creating a natural and more refreshed facial appearance.
Fillers can be used for lip rejuvenation or enhancement. They can be used to add volume to lips, improve border definition and shape, correct asymmetry and treat vertical lines around the lips to help prevent lipstick bleed.
What fillers are used?
Dr Moko’s team uses injectable gels made from a natural complex sugar called hyaluronic acid (HA). Found in living tissue, HA assists in skin hydration by attracting and holding water, and combine with collagen and elastin to help provide skin structure. Injectable HA is not derived from animals, however, but manufactured and purified especially for facial and lip rejuvenation.
How long do fillers last?
The procedure may take between 15 to 30 minutes, results are immediate, and the majority of people are able to resume normal activities on leaving the clinic. The results can last for up to a year.
